The Tides that Bind Us

Overview

The Grenada program will not run again until at least summer 2008.

The Grenada study abroad program provides students with an opportunity to examine the impact of culture on education and development for children and adolescents in the African Diaspora with a specific focus on Grenadian culture. Within this context, students have an integrated learning experience with the application of cross-cultural learning blended with experiential components of the program.

Students participate in classroom modules taught by program faculty, tour the tri-island nation (including Carriacou, Petit Martinique, the Grenada National Museum, St. George Botanical Gardens, Dougladston Spice Estate and much more), and visit co-educational, same-gender, and rural schools. Students interact with Grenadian educators from the Ministry of Education as well as teachers and students from local schools. They learn about the history and culture of Grenada both pre- and post-independence and Grenada's rain forest in order to better understand the connection between the island's ecosystem and literary tropes and lore.
